Munson
Munson
By Loren Broaddus
There is a photograph
of Munson celebrating
the Chambliss walk-off
to win the ’76 American
League pennant.
As a kid, I hated that moment,
my Royals heartbreakingly
defeated by the swashbuckling
Yankees, Munson, the Captain,
not loved at my house
back in that bicentennial
autumn, although later
I remember hearing
of his Ohio plane crash and crying,
all our swashbuckling
momentarily broken.
