by the river

down by the river
it’s where we
used to play
 
the sun burned
hot on that
humid summer’s day
 
if you took a
mighty swing and hit
the ball a good rip
 
it might fly high
the fielders would
have to take a dip
 
at night we listened to
the crackling radio
broadcasting baseball sounds
 
campfire smoke danced
as we pictured the
hallowed baseball grounds
