The Art of Jose Martin

The Art of Jose Martin

I was born in the city of Oviedo, in Asturias, a small region on the northwest coast of Spain. I have been working as a graphic designer for more than twenty years in the Alicante area. Since 2016 I have prioritized mainly illustration projects, with a big taste of comic book art. American comic artists such as Jack Kirby, Gene Colan, and John Buscema have been a great influence on my style.

How did a Spaniard like me develop a taste for baseball? Mainly because of being a huge fan of movies. I learned a lot about baseball from films such as The Pride Of The Yankees, The Natural, Bull Durham, and Field of Dreams. I think these movies were able to translate the magic of this sport for me. I also started reading a lot about it. Books as Shoeless Joe, The Church of Baseball, If You Build It…

I think there’s no other sport with that kind of special flavor, the uniqueness of its ballparks, the apparel of its players, the rituals behind every player and game.
