it’s the best thing you people ever did,
he bounces his head up&down the way
iguanas do when they’re swallowing
or just really happy. he watches games

through the windows of the Dominican
family across the street, perched on low
royal poinciana branches, his couch.
he’s mesmerized by the stillness, then bam,

they swing, throw, run. it’s like something scares them.
the grass looks nice, too. i could lay for hours
in left field and no one would realize.
he’s loves the marlins, but it’s all the same

who wins or loses. it’s still sun and field.
