By Sandra Marchetti
A man spits juice
as his grimed thumb
prepares another chaw.
The woman with him
tries the next snack
to see what pleases her.
We come here
to forget together.
My father beside
me barely exists.
The crowd’s murmur
sounds like glitter
falling, sealing each
of us. I’m Venus
on an elevator
to the upper deck
then the roof,
cloud climbing
while the organist
plays The Drifters.
