By Richard Merelman
(The Brewers designated two-time
All-Star Lorenzo Cain for assignment…)
Wisconsin State Journal, June 19, 2022
His time has come. Though all will go.
Despite heroics, talent, smarts,
The team has managed to plateau.
The hitters hit in fits and starts
Despite heroics, talents, smarts.
The pitchers trudge from loss to loss;
The hitters hit in fits and starts.
Lorenzo Cain’s an albatross.
The pitchers trudge from loss to loss;
The fielders trip as if on ice.
Lorenzo Cain’s an albatross.
His age demands his sacrifice.
The fielders trip as if on ice.
The knock on Cain? He sprained his back.
His age demands his sacrifice;
We worry that his spine will crack.
The knock on Cain? He sprained his back.
We aren’t cruel. We share Cain’s pain.
We worry that his spine will crack.
Our heart is torn. But not our brain.
We aren’t cruel. We share Cain’s pain.
The team has managed to plateau.
Our heart is torn. But not our brain.
His time has come. Though all will go.
